Do you care more about results or reputation?

How important are results and what are you willing to overlook on the promise of strong results?
That question can be asked when negative information about individuals comes to light. The new movie “The Social Network” doesn’t always paint Mark Zuckerberg in the most favorable light.
The movie shows how Zuckerberg and his partners created and launched Facebook. Even beyond the movie there are stories discussing his personal shortcomings, questionable motives and privacy issues he has had since creating Facebook.
No matter what you think about Zuckerberg on a personal level you can’t ignore his genius and that Facebook has become a revolutionary product.
But is there a point when you know enough about an individual that it turns you off of their product. We will see what happens with this now that “The Social Network” premiered as the number one movie.
Before the movie, Zuckerberg managed to maintain a delicate balance. He stayed high profile enough that many knew he was creator but at the same time he was below the radar. Unless you worked in the social media industry you didn’t always hear all the behind the scenes stories about him personally.
Now that the movie is out he has a much more recognizable face and profile. That also sets you up to be knocked down. There are new social platforms out now and being launched that could potentially compete with Facebook. Time will tell if any of them have the power to attract 500 million friends.
