How to sell an iron chef

Selling books today is not easy. Many people are used to reading online and the cost of hardbacks is a huge barrier to overcome. But then there are some people that can publish and their loyal audience is willing to pay the price.

Iron Chef Bobby Flay seems to be one of the lucky authors. Bobby just released a book called Throwdown based on his hit show on the Food Network. The premise of Throwdown is to have Bobby compete against someone who is famous for their specialty.

Throwdown has been in the Philly area and Bobby has competed against Tony Luke for cheese steaks (lost), Delilah for macaroni(won) and cheese and for soft pretzels against the pretzel boys(won).

The book Throwdown was released on October 12th and Flay came to our area on October 13th. He did a book signing at the Williams and Sonoma in King of Prussia in the afternoon and then at night he came to the Bellevue in center city.

The line in the Williams and Sonoma in the Bellevue stretched out the door as they waited for their chance to have a few seconds to meet their favorite chef, have him sign their book and get a picture.

Flay will be traveling to other locations for more of these signings. These promotional tours are good for book sales and give fans the opportunity to meet an iron chef. If the crowd he commanded in Philadelphia is any indication of what he will get at other stops than he is guaranteed a best seller.
